The fact is that, practically, you need to start eating more if you want to see your muscles grow. The muscles are highly stressed after an intense workout and you need eat much more than usual to let them grow after wards. They need food to be able to grow! The trick is to eat several times a day and eat less each time. If you eat too much at once, you feel sleepy. Therefore, you need increase your food intake and you can do so by eating decent amounts several times a day.
Another major misconception is that you can eat anything and still grow muscles. This is not true at all. You need to increase the protein levels in your diet to help muscles to build. Protein majorly constitutes the muscles in our body and in order to grow muscles, it is vital to provide them with ample amounts of protein after workouts. To achieve this you need to supplement your diet with lots of protein- rich foods. Fish, eggs (egg white), chicken, and red meats are the best sources of protein. Other foods that are very rich in protein are green vegetables like spinach. Broccoli and sweet potatoes are rich in antioxidants, which are essential in fighting free radicals that which release while working out. Other than that, a very important thing that most of us miss is that eating the right things is not enough. It is crucial to eliminate or stay away from the ‘wrong’ foods too, in order for the right diet to complement your workout. You need to ignore junk food, pastries and cakes, etc, completely. You also need to avoid carbonated and caffeinated beverages (sodas and coffees). It is best to stay away from fried, fatty foods and to replace saturated fats with unsaturated fats (olive oil is a good option).
